Now, apparently, nine-year-old phenom Jericho Scott's family has resorted to suing in order to get him back on the mound. But the opposition echoes the league, saying young Jericho has no business being that good:

Peter Noble, a lawyer for the coed league, said in published reports that Jericho has no business tossing heat at 8-to-10-year-old batters.

"He is a very skilled player, a very hard thrower," Noble said. "There are a lot of beginners. This is not a high-powered league. This is a developmental league whose main purpose is to promoted (sic) the sport."

Wait. Isn't pitching part of baseball, or are the kids pitching just supposed to toss meatballs over the plate in order to placate their fragile peers? What about them? What about the very object of the game being the fact that you need to hit the ball?

This is ridiculous, and it is beyond all argument. Jericho is of appropriate age, which is all that really matters - but he's also not oversized, or even suspiciously tall. He's not Danny Almonte, folks!

Let Jericho pitch. In a way, sports teaches kids about the world. If you can't hit your opponent's best pitch in a real-world setting, there aren't any consolation prizes, no 6th-place medals. That's life.
