The American media has been noticeably reticent when it has come to any issue of race that didn't involve this dude. They certainly have let Hillary Clinton off the hook when it comes to her largely unfettered courting of the racist vote. Apparently, it takes you turning to Al-Jazeera (English) to get an honest accounting of exactly why some Americans have chosen Clinton in this Democratic primary.

A dispatch from Kentucky:

I'm a week late on this; see Too Sense for a great perspective.

Three things I love:

  • "I'm not racist..."

  • The unbelievably defensive local reporter. "Nope, no one here's ever brought up race. Ever. Really. Never, ever. Seriously."

  • The palpable fear that Barack Obama, whose mother was White, will exact revenge for Jim Crow by forcing White folks to the back of the bus. I couldn't make that up.

  • God bless America.
